This is a question often asked by people who have never walked in the door of a health club, and based on some of the advertising health clubs use to promote exercise I’m not surprised !
At Millennium our job is to encourage people to exercise on a regular basis. And the biggest hurdle for most people is getting started. This is why all programs at Millennium are totally individualised based on the person’s needs, wants and their level of fitness. All new members commence a program that reflects their current level of fitness and as their fitness increases their program is adjusted accordingly, until a stage where you are happy with your results and then it’s just about maintaining them. If you are a beginner a health club is the best place to start as you receive professional guidance and advice which will ensure any exercise program you undertake is both safe and effective.
I’m so busy, how will I fit it in?These days life is so busy and stressful that often all our good intentions of wanting to start a program are never realised, as we put everything else first even though one of our main reasons we want to start is to reduce stress and have more energy. It becomes a vicious cycle. Did you know it only takes 3 times per week to see results that total only 2.5 % of our waking life to be able to achieve the goals you’ve always wanted? Millennium understands the busy lifestyles of our members and we endeavour to ensure all our programs suit your individual lifestyle. If you tell us you can only manage 2 visits per week then we will develop your program accordingly.
It’s important you make exercise a high priority, but it’s also important that you don’t set yourself unrealistic expectations as this then leads to feelings of failure and disappointment and we just give up all together. Remember doing something is better than doing nothing at all.
What is the best exercise to lose weight? The majority of members when they first get started want to lose weight. Any type of cardio vascular exercise will promote weight loss. These include group fitness classes or using our cardiovascular equipment. Once you have started losing the weight you would also need to include some resistance training to increase your lean muscle mass. Contrary to the old belief that you will “bulk up “ from using weights, the more lean muscle mass you have the more efficiently you burn fat.
Another factor that plays a huge part is weight loss in your nutrition. During your initial stages of starting a program approximately 70% of your result will come from your eating choices.
